What is Ayurveda, exactly?
A sister science to Traditional Chinese Medicine, and a branch of the same Vedic wisdom that brings us yoga, Ayurveda is a holistic system of medicine from India that means “science of life". It focuses on balance between body, mind, and spirit through food, herbs, daily rhythm, and lifestyle practices. Ayurveda uses specific qualities to look at anything of substance (or even lack of substance) through an elemental lens to bring balance and harmony to things on the micro and macro cosm level of wellness.
How do you pronounce your name?
Ahh, I get this one a lot. My name is pronounced EH-vee, rhymes with Chevy. I'm named after my grandmother, Evelyn. But it's okay if it takes us a little while to remember.
So are you a health coach?
Not exactly. While some of what I do may look similar, the term “health coach” doesn’t quite capture the heart of this work. I think of myself more as a guide — someone who walks alongside you as you navigate your own healing path. I’ve been guiding others through unknown terrain for well over 25 years, and what resonates most with me most is my passion for helping people reconnect to their inner knowing. We do this with tools that are both ancient and practical. I won’t do the work for you — but I’ll offer steady support, perspective, and practices to help you succeed in a way that feels sustainable and real. This is about remembering that healing is already within you, we just have to know where to look to find it.
What happens in an initial consultation?
First, you will get some client onboarding documents where you can share about your health history as well as current wellness goals. We’ll spend roughly 90 minutes together going over many of your details, as well as getting a good feel for what your priorities are in wellness, as well as exploring your current state of health. We will implore traditional Ayurvedic examination techniqes to also listen to what your body has to say. This will help us determine your unique constitution (prakruti), current imbalances (vikruti), digestion, sleep, lifestyle, emotional patterns, and health goals. We will have 60 minute follow up appointment shortly after your initial session to go over our findings as well as some Ayurvedic considerations for you to implement into your life, if you so choose. These personalized recommendations may include food, herbs, self-care rituals, breathwork, yoga or movement practices and meditation techniques to support your health. The price for the initial consult INCLUDES this first follow up consultation.
How is this different from other holistic health approaches?
Ayurveda is unique in its elemental, personalized approach. It doesn't rely on trends or one-size-fits-all advice. Instead, it looks at you — your body, your rhythms, your environment — and supports healing from the inside out.
Can you help me with my "___" condition?
Maybe — and also, maybe we can look at that question a little differently. Ayurveda doesn’t treat conditions the way conventional medicine does. Instead, it looks at the whole person — your digestion, lifestyle, stress, sleep, energy, emotions, and unique constitution — to understand why imbalance is showing up in the first place. So whether you're dealing with something like IBS, fatigue, anxiety, hormonal shifts, skin conditions, or just a sense that something's off, Ayurveda offers personalized support to strengthen your foundation. It won’t replace your medical care — but it will work alongside it to help you feel more vibrant, more grounded, and more like you.
Do I have to give up coffee, alcohol, cigarettes or the other things holding me togehter?
Great question — and no, I’m not here to take away the things that are holding you together. Ayurveda isn’t about judgment or restriction — it’s about curiosity, balance, and honoring where you are. We start by gently observing what’s serving you and what might be asking for a shift. Sometimes that means small adjustments over time, not dramatic overhauls, though there are some health conditions that truly would benefit from moderation of our vices. Healing is not about perfection — it’s about moving toward feeling more like yourself, with support and compassion along the way. One of my favorite sayings is "everything in moderation, including moderation".
Is Ayurveda a religion?
Nope. While rooted in ancient Indian philosophy, Ayurveda is a science of life, not a belief system. It can complement any spiritual or religious path — or none at all.
What's with all the Sanskrit?
You’ll notice I often use both the original Sanskrit terms and their English translations throughout this site and in my work. This is an intentional choice. Sanskrit carries the energetic imprint and depth of meaning embedded in this ancient lineage of healing. Using these names honors the roots of Ayurveda and the cultures from which this wisdom comes. At the same time, I aim to make this work accessible and welcoming to all — so I offer English translations to support understanding and connection. It’s a balance of reverence and clarity, holding both the origin and the unfolding of this medicine with care.
So where did Ayurveda originate?
Ayurveda arose out of the Vedas, ancient texts that also gave rise to Hindu philosophy, yoga, and other Indian sciences. It shares cosmology, elemental theory, and principles like karma and dharma with Hinduism, Sankhya philosophy, and yogic thought. Some Ayurvedic texts also integrate ideas from Buddhist and Jain traditions — especially around ethics, non-violence, and lifestyle.
Can I practice Ayurveda alongside Western medicine, acupuncture or another holistic therapy?
Absolutely. Ayurveda can beautifully support other care you're receiving. It’s not a replacement for medical treatment, but a deeply nourishing complement. Think of Ayurveda as learning your personal owners manual to the vehicle that is you. That doesn't mean you won't need to go to a mechanic occasionally, but you'll be a lot more in tune with when something is off so you can get tuned up quicker and more efficiently.
How long does it take to see results?
That depends on your goals and how long the imbalance has been present. Ayurveda is “slow medicine” — sustainable, layer-by-layer healing — but many people notice positive shifts within the first few weeks. The key here is consistency. Unlike taking a pill, these are practices that must be done in order to achieve change on a cellular level. We don't go to the gym once and come out a body builder, it takes time for our body to respond as well as progress.
Do you offer virtual sessions?
Yes! Consultations can be held via Zoom, so we can work together no matter where you are.
Do you take insurance?
At this time, Ayurveda is not covered by most insurance providers in the U.S., so I do not bill insurance directly. However, you’re welcome to use HSA or FSA funds IF your plan allows. I’m happy to provide a detailed receipt (a "Superbill"), however I can not guarantee acceptance or coverage.
Is Ayurveda a licensed medical practice in the U.S.?
Ayurveda is not yet a licensed medical system in the United States. That means Ayurvedic practitioners are not medical doctors and can not claim to diagnose, treat, cure or mitigate disease in a conventional sense. Instead, I offer holistic, lifestyle-based client education — personalized to help you restore balance and feel your best.
